Vintage Aurora Borealis rhinestone brooch, a popular style of costume jewelry. Aurora Borealis (AB) is a unique iridescent coating, developed by Swarovski in collaboration with Christian Dior in the 1950s, gives the rhinestones a rainbow-like shimmer, reminiscent of the Northern Lights. The brooch features a cluster or tiered arrangement of AB-coated rhinestones, in a silver-tone metal base. These were popular in the mid-20th century, particularly in the 1950s and 60s, appearing in various forms of costume jewelry including brooches, necklaces, and earrings.
